Lydia Mehring was born April 5, 1810, in Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of Frederick and Magdalena Garner Mehring. On December 8, 1830, in Frederick County, Maryland, she married William Valentine, son of Jacob and Anna Mary Freeze Valentine. They were the parents of 7 children: Elias Frederick, Minerva Ann, Sylvester, William Albert, Lewis Henry, Sarah Jane and Grayson Howard Valentine. Lydia passed away August 15, 1875, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, and was buried in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery there.
