John Paul Jensen
John Paul Jensen, Diane's best friend, loving husband, dedicated father, "Grandpa John", finished his earthly life's work on Thursday, June 29, 2017 after a twelve year battle with Parkinson's disease. John, 75, made Hyde Park his home since 1971 where he actively served in the community and church. John will be missed by family, friends and the community who will remember him for his work ethic, strength and his sense of humor that was both dry wit and over most of our heads.
John was born November 28, 1941 in Rupert, Idaho the third child of Denzel and Marco. He started life in a one bedroom home and slept on the porch. He graduated to indoor plumbing as a teenager after helping build the new family home. While attending Minico High, John loved music and played the trombone in both the high school band and in his own dance band. As a youth John worked as a jeweler, builder and farmer and loved physical labor and working with his hands all his life.
John served an LDS mission in Denmark for 2 1/2 years where he worked to speak Danish so well he was often mistaken as a native Dane; he even received a notice to serve in the Danish military. He served faithfully in the church working with the youth, young single adults and in every capacity he was asked to fill. John's high council and bishopric talks were always worth hearing.
He attended USU and graduated in 1968 from the college of engineering. He met his sweetheart, Diane Skinner from Nounan, Idaho, when she spotted him across the room looking "oh so handsome in that Danish sweater". They worked together on the ward roadshow and soon discovered they were soulmates. John and Diane recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
John and Diane both taught school before John worked for the State of Utah Division of Water Rights in the Logan office for 31 years. He was always a farmer at heart and most days, before, after and sometimes during his day job, John could be found on his tractor or at the barn working with his hands doing what he really loved.
John is survived by his wife, Diane and 5 of their 6 children: Aaron (Melanie) of North Logan, Nathan – deceased, Jennifer (Jared Bohman) of Hyde Park, Jocelyn (Jason Bohman) of Smithfield, Dave (Melisa) of Hyde Park, Jared "Jay" of Salt Lake City and 14 grandchildren. Siblings: Gary - deceased, Barbara Stewart, Mardene Smith, Sandra Porter - deceased and Gloria Crowther.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nyman Funeral Home. Funeral services for John will be held in Hyde Park, Utah at the LDS Chapel: 50 West 200 South at 12:00 noon on Friday July 7th. There will be a viewing at the same church Thursday evening July 6th from 7:00-8:00 pm and on Friday morning from 10:30-11:30 before the service. Interment at Hyde Park Cemetery.
