Barbara Ann Patterson, 74, of Alma, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born March 20, 1943, in Claremore, OK to the late Robert and Geneva (Marlin) McClendon. Barbara was raised in Fresno, CA and attended Central High School where she was an outstanding artist and the editor of the Grizzly Gazette.


She was a candy maker at Kopper Kettle for 22 years and worked at Wal-Mart for 25 years. She was an avid semester, sewing cheerleading uniforms for many of Alma Little League teams over the years.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bobbie Hefley; two brothers, Robert and Roy McClendon; and a niece, Christie Gilstrap-Morgan.


She is survived by her husband, Rick Patterson of the home; a daughter, Rhonda Tomlinson and husband Tony; a son, Brad Patterson and wife Gina; a sister, Beverly McClendon; a brother, Randy McClendon; grandchildren, Andrea Jeffcoat, Derrick Smotherman, Tyler Smotherman, and Ryan Smotherman, Nicole Ackerman and Tara Badeaux; and a great-grandchild, Brently Smotherman, Austin and Brandon Rowe, Aubrey, Devan and Gauge Badeaux.


A family-hosted graveside memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Cremation is under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren, AR.
