Betty Drane Johnson, 93, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was a resident of Mt. Pleasant for 80 years. Betty was a loving wife, mother and Nana. She was the matriarch of her family. She was a world traveler. She held the title of “Queen Bee” in the 64th Naval Sea Bees. Betty was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant where she taught children’s Sunday school for over 40 years. Betty never met a stranger, she was very loving, kind hearted and generous. Betty would often buy groceries and have them given to others who were in need. She is dearly loved by her family and all that knew her.

The family invites friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 5, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM followed by the funeral service officiated by Rev. Bob Rush at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A graveside service will be held in the Arbors at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers for the service include: James Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Paul Johnson, Tim Roundtree, Dennis Roundtree and Virgil Stewart.

Ms. Betty is survived by: her son, David Drane Johnson; grandchildren: James Lee (Gidget) Johnson, Phillip (Amy) Johnson, Mary Beth (Kevin) McMillan, and Paul Wayne Johnson; great-grandchildren: C.J., Matthew, Cheyenne, Skyler, Madilynn, Blake, and Eli; sister, Mary Ann Gilliam and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Johnson; parents, Al Drane and Agatha Drane; brothers: Roger, Watson and Noel Drane; and Mary Lou “sister” Campbell.
