WILLIAM SAMUAL MCKINNEY
William Samual McKinney, 96, of 208 North Lumpkin, Mart, died Friday, March 16, 1984 at a local nursing home. Mr. McKinney was born Sept. 13, 1887 at Personville, Texas. He was married to Miss Pearl Louise Shockley of Vernal, on April 16, 1916. She died December 9, 1973. Mr. Willie spent his early childhood in the Prairie Hill and Honest Ridge communities. He attended Southwest Texas State Normal School in San Marcos and received a teaching certificate in 1907. He taught school at Blum in Hill County one year and at Mustang in Limestone County the next two years. He assisted Mr. W.P. Alexander in his General Store at Prairie Hill for about two years. He and Miss Pear farmed on the Person Ranch until 1942 when they built a small grocery store and operated it until they retired and moved to Mart. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder at Prairie Hill. He was also a member of the Prairie Hill Masonic Lodge for almost 50 years. He is survived by four daughters; Mrs. Alto Ruth Post of 1510 McLennan, Mart, Mrs. Faye Russell of 806 Texas, Mart, Mrs. Edith Harvey of 1025 Speight, Waco, and Mrs. Mary Burke of Prairie Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Smart and Mrs. Lillie Jones, both of Mart; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday March 18, in Littlepage Chapel in Mart, with Minister James Haney officiating. Burial was in Prairie Hill Cemetery.
