Leona Pauline Flora Walton, 90, wife for more than 60 years of the late Estill H. Walton, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Bourbon Community Hospital.
Born July 7, 1926 in Nicholas County to the late Farris Lacy & Della Mae Stanfield Flora, she was former employee of Hansley Mills Manufacturing Co. in Paris and helped establish Giffin Manufacturing when it came to Carlisle, working in several positions including supervisor. She was a member of the Myers Christian Church, where she acted as Superintendent until the time of its closing. She now attends the First Baptist Church of Carlisle. Her community involvement included being President of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary for two terms, during which they won five national awards and she was presented the key to the city.
Leona was a true care-giver– devoting more than 45 years as baby-sitter and "Mamaw" to generations of children and opening her home to several foster children. She remains close with a special foster daughter, Sheila Mauer, of Rochester, New York.
Also preceding her in death were a sister, Frances Sue Lewis, and 2 infant brothers.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by Bro. Howard Livingood, a very dear and faithful friend. Burial will follow in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday.
