He was the husband of Mrs. Geraldine Dolores "Jerri" (Blackwell) Bledsoe.
Dr. Bledsoe, 66, died suddenly Saturday, at his home in Detroit, Michigan.

"Funeral services for Dr. Ovid Bledsoe Jr., a physician affiliated with Southwest Detroit Hospital, will be at 6 p.m. today at Ebenezer AME Church, 5151 W. Chicago at Grand River. Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn will direct the services and manage the burial. He was born April 14, 1921, in Marshall, Texas, where he received his early education. In 1942, he received his undergraduate degree from Bishop College in Texas. Three years later, he graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Bledsoe served his internship at Homer G. Phillips Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri, and his residency at Trinity Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He was a captain in the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea during the Korean 1968. He was a member of the Detroit Medical Society, the National Medical Association and the Wayne County Medical Association and served as treasurer of Southwest Detroit Hospital staff. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and a lifetime member of the NAACP. Dr. Bledsoe is survived by his wife, Jerri; two daughters, Kathy and Karen; and a sister. Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Ebenezer AME Church. Memorials can be made in Dr. Bledsoe's name to the United Negro College Fund, 417 Penobscot Building, Detroit, 48226."
