Vera M. Kearley, 88, of Wendell, died Friday, Feb. 16, 1996, at a Boise nursing home, due to complications following a stroke last October.
Vera was born on Nov. 7, 1907, in Orleans, Neb., to Nels J. and Nellie Carroll Cheline, the eighth of nine children. She moved with her family to Buhl in 1909 when her father moved his cattle operation to Idaho in search of abundant feed on the newly opened Irrigation tract. Following graduation from Buhl High School in 1925, she attended Links Business College for six months and then clerked at the Golden Rule Department Store and kept books for Alquist Produce.
Vera and Paul W. Kearley were engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 1927, and were married on June 27, 1928. In St. Bridget Hall in Glenns Ferry. Together they raised two daughters and three sons, which were the center of their life together. They lived and farmed in the Buhl area until 1941, when they moved to a farm south of Wendell where they lived for 50 years. Vera and Paul moved into Wendell in 1991. Paul died in 1992.
Vera was an active member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wendell, serving as organist for many years. She also belonged to the Alter Society, the Orchard Valley Grange, and the Pollyanna Club. Her Joy in life was helping those in need with a kind word or a batch of home-made cookies.
Vera is survived by two daughters, Helen (Jack) White of Simi, Calif., and Mary Ann Russell of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons, Dr. Edward (Winnie) Kearley of Ceres, Calif., Dr. Carroll (Tacui) Kearley of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dr. Bill (Sue) Kearley of Boise; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and one sister.
Scripture vigil services will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18,, 1996, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wendell. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church by Vera's nephew, Father Paschal Cheline. Burial will be at the West End Cemetery in Buhl. Family and friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Demaray's Wendell Chapel.
