Paul W. Kearley
WENDELL — Paul W. Kearley, 91, of Wendell, died Saturday, April 25, 1992, at the Green Acres Care Center in Gooding, following a stay of one week.
Paul was born March 17, 1901, in Crossville, Tenn., to William O. and Letitia Brown Kearley, the second son in a family of six. He moved with his family to Buhl in 1912. Paul worked in a bank in West Palm Beach, Fla., for two years, spending the rest of his life in the Magic Valley.
Paul and Vera M. Cheline were engaged on Thanksgiving Day in 1927, and were married on June 27, 1928, in Saint Bridget Hall in Glenns Ferry. Together they raised two daughters and three sons, which were the center of their life together. They lived and farmed in Buhl until 1941, when they moved to a farm south of Wendell, where he had purchased 120 acres in 1938, for one dollar and one dollar down and one dollar a year for five years, at which time he paid off the balance following a good crop of four-cent beans. Paul and Vera lived on this farm until this past December, when they moved to Wendell.
Paul was a longtime member of the Orchard Valley Grange. He is remembered in the community as someone who always gave help and encouragement to struggling young farmers.
Paul is survived by his wife, Vera of Wendell; two daughters, Helen White of Simi, Calif., and Mary Ann Russell of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons. Dr. Edward Kearley of Ceres, Calif., Dr. Carroll Kearley of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dr. William Kearley of Wendell; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Wendell. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with Paul's nephew, Father Paschal Cheline officiating. Interment will follow at the West End Cemetery in Buhl.
Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Demaray's Wendell Chapel.
