Ellen died in Houston, Texas on Friday, June 16, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Coffin.

She was the daughter of the late Doucet Francois (Pappy) Coussan and the late Ellen Leontine (Jacqueline) Mouton Coussan.

She was the granddaughter of the late former Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, Dr. Marc M. Mouton and Alice Campbell Mouton. Her maternal great grandparents were the late Judge and former mayor of Lafayette, William Campbell and Ellen Esteen Campbell. Her paternal great grandparents were the late Frank Gardener Mouton and Leontine Doucet Mouton. Ellen was a ninth generation Louisianian.

Ellen attended Mount Carmel Elementary in Lafayette, LA and graduated from Our Lady of Fatima High School. She attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, graduating with a degree in Sociology. Ellen was also a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha where she made many life-long friends within that group.

After her college graduation, Ellen moved to Houma, Louisiana where she was employed by the State of Louisiana as a social worker. It is there she met George Benjamin Coffin II. On October 17, 1967, they were married in Lafayette, LA at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. George worked in the oil and gas industry and the couple relocated several times, finally settling in Houston, Texas. They shared a wonderful life, especially attending the University of Texas football games with friends. George preceded Ellen in death in 2002.

Ellen's generous spirit touched many lives and she was a strong supporter of causes that were near and dear to her heart. Her passion was growing African violets and collecting anything with strawberries on it.

God took care of Ellen, especially after George's passing, by having her seek out a support group and there she became friends with Glenn Bahm, who was also a part of the bereavement group. Together they shared a special, supportive and wonderful relationship for the past twelve years.

Ellen will be missed by her aunt, Odette Coussan, her many cousins, godchildren, friends, and especially by Glenn Bahm. Ellen also leaves many friends in Lafayette and Houston to cherish her memory.
