Mary Lee Alexander

Mary Lee Alexander, of Salem, Va., passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009. She was born Dec. 7, 1918 in Mooresville to the late John Blick and Bert Neel Alexander.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Jane A. Hudson and husband, Forest and Adelaide A. Nantz; brothers, James M. Alexander and wife, Pearl T., and John C. Alexander; and nephew Harold Blick Nantz.

She is survived by her nieces, Susan Starnes and husband, Ralph (deceased), of Brandon, Fla.; Rebecca Clodfelter and husband, Ronnie, of Mooresville, Louisa Lewis and husband, Gary, of Hermitage, Tenn., Ponza Atkinson and husband, Mark, Patricia Lee Bowers and husband, David, all of Salem, Va., Paige Nantz Johnston of Woodbine, Md., and Penni Nantz of Elliston, Va.; nephews James M. Alexander Jr. and wife, Becky, of Evans, Ga.; Charles B. Alexander of Mooresville, and Larry Brewer and wife, Ineke, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. Mary Lee is also survived by 20 greatnieces and nephews and 11 great-great-nieces.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Prospect Presbyterian Church. Donations may be made to the Mooresville Library or the Cemetery Fund at Prospect Church.

Mary Lee had a full life. She was a world traveler, went to Brevard College and graduated in her late 60’s from Portland State College in Oregon. In her early years, she worked for the U.S. government in Washington, DC and then worked and lived in Italy and Germany after World War II. After her return to the states in the late 1950’s, she moved to Portland, Ore. and began work at Sandwell Engineering Inc., where she retired in 1983. She was a member of Prospect Presbyterian Church.
