Helen Carruth Mixon passed away June 20, 2017 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law Gary and Pennie Mixon in Idabel, Oklahoma. Carruth was born July 14, 1922 to Albert and Sophie Smith in Henrietta, Texas, the youngest of 11 brothers and sisters.

She maintained a close relationship all her life with her siblings. She loved hosting the boisterous Smith family reunions and having a back yard full of Smiths.

Carruth was for many years an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Idabel. Her volunteer activities included being a sponsor for the Methodist Youth Fellowship, working on many committees, and being a member of several ladies Bible study groups. Carruth and Fred were founding members of the Idabel Country Club and she was a long time member of the Ladies Golf Association.
She also enjoyed her association with the Pioneer Reading Club.

Carruth and Fred Mixon, Jr. were married on October 4, 1941 and shared a wonderful life together until his death in 1999. They had three children; Gary, Cathy, and Lou Ann.
After raising their family Fred and Carruth purchased their first motorhome and spent much of the next twenty years traveling to all sections of the U.S. They enjoyed traveling with friends from Idabel and made many new friends during their travels.

Carruth spent the last years of her life enjoying (at least when they won) her favorite sports teams. These included the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Oklahoma Thunder, and of course her Sooners. Most of all she enjoyed keeping up with the exploits of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she loved the holidays when the whole family was together.

Surviving family include son and daughter-in-law Gary and Pennie Mixon, daughter Cathy King, and son-in-law Lou Ann and David Cole; grandchildren, Gary Glen Mixon and wife Paige, Matt Mixon and wife Lyndsay, Kara Moore and husband, Caleb, Jimmie Fred King and wife Stacy, Carrissa Gray, Carmen Cross and husband Jerod; great-grandchildren, Cade Mixon, Cole Mixon, Kate Mixon, Klaire Mixon, Teagan King, Nora Johnson, Hannah Cross and Ella Cross.
