Mary was most likely born in Casey County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of George Davenport and Winney Clifton who were married in Casey County on 9 Dec 1809. After her birth, her parents moved to near Springfield in Sangamon County, Illinois. She married Thomas M. Andrew in Sangamon County on 26 June 1834. They had three children:

1) William, b. 1835 in IL
2) Jane, b. 1838 in IL
3) Winifred, b. Apr 1841 in Iowa.

Mary and Thomas moved to Jefferson County, Iowa in 1839 and were enumerated there in the 1840 Census. Thomas died on 23 August 1845 in Jefferson County and is buried there.

On 14 Nov 1847 an older widower, John Runnels, of nearby Van Buren County came to Jefferson, married Mary and took her and her three children back to Van Buren County where they were living at the time of the 1850 Census. In 1853 they removed to near Groesbeck in Limestone County, Texas. In addition to John's 6 children from his first marriage and Mary's three, they had four more children together (numbered in her order):

5) Thomas Jefferson, b. 1849 in IA
6) Mary, b. 1851 in IA
7) Charles Wesley, b. 1854 in Texas
8) Martha, b. 1855 in Texas

John Runnels died in Limestone County in Feb 1857 and was buried in the Bennett-LeNoir Cemetery in Groesbeck. Her daughter Mary died in 1863 and is also buried in Bennett-LeNoir cemetery.

Mary herself was enumerated in the 1860 Census as a widow with seven children ranging in age from 5 to 23 years. The exact date of Mary's death is not known. There is no record of her after the 1860 Census and it is assumed she died before 1870 and is buried in an unmarked grave near her husband John and daughter Martha.
