Catherine Tenikos, 93, passed away peacefully at the home she shared with her daughter and son-in-law in Pinehurst, NC, on June 21, 2017, after a six-month decline. Catherine was the daughter of the late Antone and Annie Castro, born in Taunton, MA. She was the last of nine children; her brother Tony Castro and sisters Mary Medeiros, Florrie Pimental, Agnes Araujo, Julia Silvia, Elizabeth Texeira, and Madeline Castro. Catherine was married to George Tenikos for 56 years before his passing in 2008. Catherine is survived by her cherished daughter Cathy and son-in-law Michael Broutsas. She always stated she had a lovely daughter and wonderful son-in-law. She is also survived by Godchildren, Nephews and Nieces, Great Nephews and Nieces and Great Great Nephews and Nieces. She will be missed by many friends in Taunton and all her new friends in Pinehurst. Catherine also leaves behind her Beloved Grand Dogs, Niblick and Holly.
Catherine was employed as Registered X-Ray Technician, training and starting her career at Morton Hospital, then at Church Green X-Ray and finally ending her career working in the office of Dr. Gursewak Sandhu until the age of 73. She was a past member of the Emblem Club, Women’s Guild of St. Joseph, and Homeowners Association at Arcadia Woods, having served as President for all three organizations. She volunteered in the gift shop at Morton Hospital, in Taunton, and in Pinehurst, was part of a church ministry, crocheting prayer shawls for Hospice and nursing home patients. Catherine enjoyed playing cards especially Bid Whist, doing word search puzzles and crosswords and loved the slots at Foxwoods and in Atlantic City.
Catherine lived all her life in Taunton, MA until 2014 when she began a new adventure by moving, without hesitation, with Cathy and Mike to Pinehurst, NC. She embraced the move and loved living in NC and did not miss the New England winters. Catherine made many friends but was also embraced by Cathy’s Book Club and Mike and Cathy’s Wine Group. She especially enjoyed TTOPs, the monthly neighborhood gatherings. She was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle church, in Taunton, and Sacred Heart Church, in Pinhurst.
Catherine will be buried at the MA National Cemetery, in Bourne, MA, with her husband George. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle, Church.
