Mrs. Wilson Services Set for Friday: A memorial service for Mrs. Mabel Letchworth Wilson, 97, who for 70 years was a director of the Bristol Home, 1500 Main Street, a home for the aged, and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, will be held at 4 Friday afternoon in the cathedral at Main and Church Streets.
The Very Rev. Elton O. Smith Jr, dean of the cathedral, will conduct the service. He will be assisted by the Rt. Rev. Harold B. Robinson, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York; and Cannons H. Dimmick Daldy and George M. Chapman Jr.
Born in Auburn: Mrs. Wilson, a member of a prominent Buffalo family, died on Tuesday, April 6, 1976, in her home at 178 Summer Street. She would have been 98 on April 30.
Born in Auburn, Mrs. Wilson moved to Buffalo with her family in 1881 when her father, the late Josiah Letchworth, joined his brothers in the Pratt & Letchworth firm at 189 Tonawanda Street. Mrs. Wilson's uncle, William Pryor Letchworth, donated his estate, Glen Iris, to the state for what is now Letchworth State Park.
Mrs. Wilson was the oldest living alumna of the Buffalo Seminary, known as the Buffalo Female Academy when she graduated in 1898.
She is survived by a son, Robert L. Wilson of Boston NY; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret W. Dodd of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. (newspapers.com).
