Adolphus N. VanHorn, 67, of Salisbury St. NE, died May 19, 2000 at Catawba Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born March 12, 1933 in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Adolphus and Lula Mae Whitener VanHorn, Jr.

A member of Mountain View Mennonite church, he was employed by Classic Leather and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Jolene Killian VanHorn; two sons, Tony VanHorn and Kenny VanHorn of Hickory; two daughters, Kathy Smith and Sandra Smith of Hickory; two stepdaughters, Sharon Flowers of Hildebran and Robin Earp of Taylorsville; a sister, Veva Cooke of Hildebran; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Wellington Moyer and Chaplain Kim Dowell at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hickory Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. Stephens Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
