Benny C. Barrick, 90, of Bonita Street, passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Denton-Wood Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 23, 2017, 10:00 AM, at Denton-Wood Funeral Home with Associate Pastor Kevin Pence officiating. Interment will follow in Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico. Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors. Denton-Wood Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Benny C. Barrick was born February 6, 1927 in Plainview, Arkansas to Loice and Phoebe (Reynolds) Barrick. Benny moved to Carlsbad when he was 10 years old and graduated from CHS in 1945. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. Benny married Vernell Shipley September 12, 1946. He worked for KAVE Radio station initially and later went to work in the potash mines. Benny worked for US Potash and then IMC. In 1970 he started Barrick Construction which he operated with his son, Craig until retiring in 1989. Benny was a life member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1558, life member of Eddy Lodge #21 AF and AM, active in the Carlsbad Shrine Clowns, member of Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple in Albuquerque and American Legion Post #7. Benny was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, James "Jim" Cassels.
Survivors are his wife, Vernell Barrick of Carlsbad, NM; daughters: Elaine Jones and husband, Chuck of Magnolia, TX, Marcia Cassels of Weatherford, TX; sons: Charles W. "Buzz" Barrick of Weatherford, TX, Craig Barrick and wife, Annette of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Keith Jones and wife, Stephanie, Kristin Covell, Alicia Gossett and husband, Dennis, Kari Barrick, Dondee Barrick, Chris Barrick and wife, Chelsea, Teisha Neumann and husband, Chet and Chloe Barrick; 19 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kari Barrick, Grayson McMinn, Kristin Covell, Alicia Gossett, Chris Barrick, Chloe Barrick, Teisha Neumann and Dennis Gossett. Honorary pallbearers are Benny's great grandchildren and the members of the Carlsbad Shrine Club.
