According to Daniel's son, George S. Morris' biography, Daniel came to Illinois from Kentucky in 1839. He entered a piece of land in Piatt County, afterwards known as the "upper Joe Moore farm" and became one of the pioneers of Piatt County.
Here he lived for several years, carrying on his trade as a carpenter. Then he moved to Indiana where he married two women, America and Susanna Bruner. He married Mrs. Susanna Bruner on 7 Feb 1850 and we find him listed with Susanna and two of her children in the 1850 US Census - Sarah & Eliza as well as five of his children - Jane, Cynthia, Theodore, Hester, and Julia in Eugene Twp., Vermillion County, IN.
He returned to Illinois by early 1857 as he married Ruhamah Stovale on 8 Jan 1857, his fourth wife as they were listed in the 1860 census for Moultrie County, IL along with their first son, George, her two sons by her previous marriage and her mother . Daniel died 7 Jul, 1871, however, Ruhamy preceded him in death, her demise occurring 4 Nov, 1870.
