Monsignor Leander Reicks, 89. died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007. at Colonial Manor, Elma. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Lucas, with Bishop Jerome Hanus presiding. Burial will be in St. Luke's Cemetery. Visitation is 2 - 8 pm. Thursday at St. Luke's Catholic Church, with a 4 p.m. Rosary Society and KC Rosary, 7 30 p.m. Scripture Service and also one hour before services at the church. In life Msgr. Reicks was born Nov. 22. 1917 at St. Lucas, the son of Victor and Mary (Heying) Reicks. He attended St Luke's Catholic School and graduated from high school in Amanllo, TX. In 1940 Msgr Reicks received a BA degree from Loras College, Dubuque; in 1943. earned a Master's degree from St Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, WI, and in 1958 received his teaching certificate. He was ordained at St Luke's Catholic Church. St Lucas, on Feb 5. 1944. And was appointed Monsignor in October 1974. Parish assignments included the towns of Marshalltown. Bellevue. St Lucas. Mason City. Cherry Mound, Dougherty, Cresco, Elma, Alta Vista Over the years, Msgr Reicks served as priest, counselor, teacher, he also coached baseball, basketball and some football Msgr Reicks retired July 1992 to St Lucas and entered Colonial Manor in Elma in 2002 He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Msgr. Leander Reicks Foresters and St. Luke's Parish. He enjoyed reading, traveling, genealogy, going to Threshing Days to see steam engines and being with his family and friends. Survivors include two sisters, Elsie (Dan) Swehla and Marian (Norbert) Retterath, Caiman nine brothers, Norbert (Virginia). Neal, Eugene (Grace), Alex, Francis (Lucille). Ardwin (Edna), all of Lawler, Harry (Barbara), Waucoma, Don. Kasson, MN, Roy (Carolyn), Missouri Valley, a sister-in-law, Lorraine Carlson, New Hampton: brother-in-law, Linus Kruse, Cresco. Preceding him in death were his parents, Victor and Mary Reicks; one sister, Lucille Kruse, two brothers. Joseph in infancy and Jerome, three sisters- in-law. Alice Reicks. Lucille Reicks, Vernice Reicks. one brother-in-law, Roche Lensing.
