Mr. Jose P. Pepe Cantu, 76, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Joe was born in San Juan, Texas to Matias and Aurora Cantu. He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1956, and started working with his father in the trucking business in San Juan and Bay City, Texas.

Joe married the love of his life, Irma Alvarez on Dec. 1, 1963. They would have celebrated their Golden Anniversary this year. Joe was active for many, many years at Christ the King Catholic Church. Joe was a very caring individual who was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Joe was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Aurora and Matias Cantu and his brother, Julian Cantu.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving wife of 50 years, Irma the daughter who was his pride and joy, Debbie and her husband Scott Hermosa and his adored grandson, Ethan. Joe will also be missed by his siblings: Enedina Cantu, Javier Cantu, and Tina Chavez his maternal aunt Luisa Lopez his two dogs: Hope and Phoebe and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, July 2, 2013, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 this evening in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2255 Southmost Road, in Brownsville. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Joes nephews: Alfredo G. Cantu, Christopher J. Cantu, Javier Cantu Jr., Matias A. Cantu, Joseph Rosas, Michael Rosas, and Robert S. Rosas are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved Uncle Joe. Scott and Ethan Hermosa, Alfonso Barrientez, Frank N. Alvarez, Beto Sanchez, Mike Shipley, Jesus Chuy Lucio, John Burn, and Steve White will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Joes family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the nurses in the SICU and MICU at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville and an extra special thank you to Dr. Jaime Gomez, Dr. Shamin, and Dr. Pelly.
