Mrs. Kathleen Ann "Kathy" (Horton) Grosland, 66, passed on May 18, 2017, at her home in Des Moines, Iowa, succumbing to aspiration pneumonia at the end of a nine­ year battle bravely fought with primary progressive MS.

Kathy was born to Donald F. Horton and Florine Ann (O'Hara) Horton in Davenport, Iowa on January 30, 1951. The family moved to Des Moines in her early childhood, where she attended local Catholic parochial schools and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1969. She subsequently lived in West Des Moines and Des Moines, worked for Hawkeye Security Insurance Company for 28 years, and retired at the end of December of 1997.

She married David A. Grosland on March 1, 1980, and acquired four deeply loved stepchildren in the process. She possessed a great sense of humor and held a deep commitment to making sure everyone else was happy.

Kathy grew up adoring Elvis Presley and attended several of his live concerts. She spent many summers involved with Beaverdale Little League, and loved visiting casinos, the Ak-Sar-Ben track, and spending time with friends and family at her brother's Minnesota cabin.

Kathy is survived by her husband, David, two stepdaughters, Meghan L. (Justin) Gaskins of Covington, KY, and Marcella J. "Cella" (Mark) Fedson of Des Moines, IA, two stepsons, Matthew D. "Matt" Grosland and Michael P. "Mike" Grosland of Des Moines, Iowa, two brothers, James D. (Shelley) Horton, and Michael L. (Susan) Horton, a sister, Mary F. (Lyle) Hanrahan, two sisters-in-law, Linda L. (James) Mabry III, and Laura M. (Cliff ) Reublin, three step grandchildren, Elizabeth LeighAnne "Lizzie" Gaskins, Madalyn Rae "Maddie" Freeman Grosland, and Justin Fedson, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Florine Horton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11am, Monday, May 22, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave., West Des Moines, IA 50265. Interment to follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Visitation 4 to 6pm, Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Rd., Des Moines, IA 50322.

Memorials may be made to Suncrest Hospice.
