Timothy Hart was a son of Nathaniel Hart and Martha Lee. He was married in 1751 to Phebe Fenn, and they had 12 children: Benjamin, Timothy Jr., Titus, Jonathan, Isaac, Phebe, Joel, Amos, Amasa, Elizabeth, Jesse, and Ebenezer.

During the American Revolutionary War, Timothy Hart served as a Private in Capt. Isaac Cook's 7th Company, Col. David Wooster's 1st Regiment, Wallingford, Connecticut Militia. He is listed in the Revolutionary War Rolls of Connecticut in December 1778 as a Private in the 3rd Battalion.

Researchers disagree on his death, and dates include 1776, 1790, and after 1800.
