Leonard married Nannie F. Leslie on February 14, 1879 in Bardstown, Kentucky.
After Fannie died, Leonard moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked for a car manufacturer as the 1900 census shows he was an auto assembler there. His wife is Eva, with more than a 20 year difference in their ages. They were married on May 4, 1900 by John St. Clair, Justice of Peace in St. Joseph, Berrien, Michigan where Leonard gave his age as 43 and her as 21. Eva was the daughter of Hiram Cram and Lydia Burk. Eva was married to Leonard until his death and was the informant on his death certificate in Bardstown. It is not known what happened to Eva or if she remarried. (Findagrave contributor Ginni Wright)
