Bertha Mae HARTLINE-EADS was born 28 September 1913 somewhere in Missouri. She was the daughter of (Lack) John Newman HARTLINE and Alice Mae JOHNSON-HARTLINE. She married Columbus Franklin EADS and to this union were two sons born:
Floyd "Junior" EADS 1932-1993
Lloyd Gene "Teddy" EADS 1934-2008
Bertha passed away from Tuberculosis & Nephritis (Kidney Disease) on 13 May, 1941 (see note posted below regarding death date) in Bernie, Stoddard, Missouri. She was laid to rest in the Bernie City Cemetery, Bernie, Missouri
*NOTE* It is my firm belief that the inscription on Grandmother's Tombstone is incorrect. There are several reasons why I believe the stone is incorrect.
#1-I have found her listed on the 1940 Census which was enumerated on 1 April, 1940 so we know that she was alive and well then. The tombstone states she died 7 May, 1939 however her death certificate lists her date of death as May 13,1941.
Information from 1940 Census:
Columbus Eads 32
Bertha Eads 26
Junior Eads 7
Loyd Eads 5
Source Citation: Year: 1940; Census Place: Bernie, Stoddard, Missouri; Roll: T627_2159; Page: 4B; Enumeration District: 104-11.
#2- My father specifically told me that his mother Bertha passed away when he was 9 years old and that she had slept in the same bed with him that night and he awoke to find her having passed away during the night. He was 9 years old in 1941.
#3- I have done extensive research with the State of Missouri looking for Grandmother's death certificate. They were unable to locate a death certificate for her using the date of 7 May, 1939.
UPDATE: 21 October, 2012- I have located Grandmother Bertha's death certificate. She passed away 13 May, 1941. I have corrected the information within this record. Her cause of death was Tuberculosis and Chronic Nephritis. This document proves that her tombstone is indeed incorrect! I have also changed her date of birth as was reflected within her death certificate, it stated she was born 28 Sept 1913.
