YAKIMA - Alice J. Blanchard, 88, died February 20, 2007 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Alice was born October 7, 1918 in Lansford, ND to Lawrence and Ida Mae (Tossett) Espeseth. Alice bucked tradition of the time by playing basketball as a young girl. She moved to Yakima in 1936 where she met and married Joseph Eugene Blanchard on June 2, 1938. The couple enjoyed time at their cabin at Rimrock Lake with their sons, fishing for silvers. Alice loved tending her flowers, especially the beautiful roses that lined her driveway. She spent countless hours creating embroidery pieces for her family. She liked playing cards with her daughters-in-law and grandchildren. She was known to speak her mind and had a quick wit. She was heard to say after many family gatherings that, "nothing settles the stomach like a good laugh!"

She is survived by her children and their spouses: David & Connie Blanchard of Yakima, Jerry & Sandy Blanchard of Naches, and daughter-in-law Marilyn Blanchard of Yakima. Grandchildren: Debra Blanchard of Renton, WA; Kenneth & Kim Blanchard of Yakima; Jason Blanchard of Yakima; Janelle & Nate Wright of Bellingham, WA; Karen & Leonard Punch of Scappoose, OR; Sherry Blanchard of Oakland, ME; Brian Blanchard of Jacksonville, FL and Michelle Blanchard of Seattle, WA. Three great-grandchildren: Alisha Blanchard, Morgan Hunt and Kaelyn Blanchard, all of Yakima; sister, Irene Jevne of Minot, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her niece, Bonnie Stanley of Lansford.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, her son Bruce, and sisters, Myrtle Jevne and Louise McLean.

Viewing will be Thursday, February 22, from noon to 8 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, February 23 at 10 a.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, c/o Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
