Harold E. Meisenhoelder, 76, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997, at his home. He was a native of Clay County. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and a World War II veteran. He was employed by Brunswick Marine for 23 years and was a member of the Siloam Water District. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he served as elder, church treasurer and secretary of the Church Council. He also was a member of the International Laymen’s League, the Aid Association for Lutherans, and Bethesda Lutheran Homes and Services. He was an active member of the Oktibbeha Audubon Society, Ducks Unlimited and the West Point Roll-A-Ways, an affiliate of the Mississippi Square and Round Dance Association. An avid gardener, he enjoyed cultivating and growing several types of Japanese persimmons, and a variety of fig trees, blueberries and muscadines. He was an environmentalist and a supporter of the Environmental Defense Fund, the Nature Conservancy Center for Marine Conservation, the Wilderness Society and WORL Wildlife Fund.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leonard Poppe officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in West Point.

Survivors include one sister, Louise M. Meisenhoelder of West Point; two brothers, Bernard Meisenhoelder of West Point and Sam Meisenholder of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; two aunts, Arbelle Barkemyer of West Point and Ethel Meisenholder of Richland; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be George Meisenhoelder, David Meisenhoelder, Jeff Meisenhoelder, Terry Acker, William “Bud” Holtcamp and David Santmyer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Dingledein, Bill Franklin, Doyle Phelps, Dr. Charles Morrison, Dr. William Gates, Dr. Robert Howland Jr., Dr. Julian B. Hill and members of Baptist Memorial Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
