Dallas F. Martin, 81, of Anderson, In, left this earthly home to be with his Lord and Savior Sept. 29, 2005, after an extended illness.

He was born July 29, 1924, in Tipton to Irvin D. Martin and Bessie Wise Martin. He had resided in Anderson since 1977; he formerly lived in Greentown and Alexandria.

Dallas was a graduate of North Vernon High School Class of 1943. he served during World War II in the United States Army. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and was discharged as a Tech 5 in 1946 from the 630th Engineers. He attended the Purdue Agricultural Extentions.

He worked at Johns-Mansville formerly of Alexandria and was a much sought after softball pitcher. He operated Martin's Grocery, formerly of Alexandria, Dallas had worked at Guide Lamp formerly of Anderson, and retired from Sears & Robuck in Anderson after 10 years of employment. He was a member of the Southdale Church of the Nazarene in Anderson. Dallas was a craftsman in many areas and particularly enjoyed working and restoring cars and renovating and restoring houses.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley( Blake)Martin whom he married Dec. 15, 1972; four daughters, Joyce(David) Miller, Ona Kay(Tim)Shelton, LaNetta( Bob)Eastman all of Alexandria, Carolyn (Roy) Tremble of Chesterfield; a son Jimmy (Alberta)Martin of Alexandria; stepson, Rodney(Myra) Triplett of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Kathy(Jim) Wehsollek of Alexandria; brother, Bill (Daarlene) Martin of Jacksonville, FL; 10 grandchildren, Annette (Steve) Doan, Tony (Wendy) Miller, Missy (Chris) Beeman, Troy Baker, Tracy (Tera) Barker, Kelly (Dewayne) Whiteheart, Craig (Shannon) Shelton, Derek ( Brooke) Shelton, Scott (Jenny) Martin, Kristina Martin, Kyle (Sara) Martin, Clint (Cassy) Martin, Jessica (Chris) Gerber, Sarah (Ryan) Thompson, Amanda Triplett, Megan Triplett, Cameron Triplett, Kirstyn Wehsollek, Colton Wehsollek; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael K. Martin, in 1987,son-in-law, Jack Barber; sister Arvilla Malott; and brother, Orval Martin.

A Celebration Sevice of Dallas' life will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, in the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene, 1401 S. Harrison St., with the Rev's David Hudson, Fred McMilan and Randy James officiating. Interment will take place at Park View Cemetery in Alexandria with millitary honors provided by the Elwood Veterans of Foreign Wars 5782.

Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St., Alexandria, from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday or at the church one hour prior to the service.
