William Oliver Bridges, Jr., 70, of Center Point, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007. Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville. Interment will follow at Center Point Cemetery.

Oliver was born in McLennan County, Texas, to the late William "Bill" Oliver and Oma Viola Bridges. He led an exciting life and enjoyed making new friends wherever he went. From 1970 to 1978, he and his former wife, Frances Bridges Helmers, lived in Robinson, Texas, where he served in the capacity as Fire Chief, Volunteer Fireman, reserve police officer, the Water Department, coached Little League and worked on race cars. In 1978, he moved to Center Point, Texas, and worked as a welder for offshore oil rigs. He retired and became self-employed doing road construction until his final retirement when he then enjoyed playing games, dominoes, fishing and hunting with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his children, Ritchie and Bonnie Bridges; and brother, Charles Bridges.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Bridges, of Center Point; children, Timothy "Tim" Dewayne Bridges and his wife, Alison, of Cranfills Gap, William Issac "Billy" and his wife, Renee, of Juneau, Alaska, and Jannett Bridges Pieper and and her husband, Freddy, of Center Point, eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Jo Melton, of Fort Worth; brother, Tommy Bridges, of Houston; several nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
