Nathaniel and his family left West Rupert Vermont in 1797 to take up a 200 acre land grant in the area of what is now Cobourg Ontario Canada. He travelled with his wife, Bethania nee Snow and 9 children. He and Bethania re-located to Forestville NY in about 1805. Most of the children were then of age and remained in Canada or moved to the middle West of the United States. His wife, Bethania is the 2nd great granddaughter of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. Their descendants can become members of the Mayflower Society and several have done that.

His wife Bethania Harriman née Snow, was a 2nd great granddaughter of John Alden and Priscilla Mullins and also a Mayflower descendant of ancestors grandparents George Soule, John Billington, Peter Browne, Francis Cooke, Francis Eaton, Dr. Samuel Fuller and
William Mullins.

Nathaniel would have been referred to as a "Later Loyalist" rather than an United Empire Loyalist. Immigrants taking free land were required to swear allegiance to "the Crown". Nathaniel had served on the American side during the revolutionary war along with his brother Jonathan.

He only stayed in Upper Canada from 1797 until 1805. They had some connection to Forestville NY and he, Bethania and 3 of the youngest children moved there in 1805.
