Oliver Wood Purdy, Resident of Goodhue County Since 1876, Dies at Age 87 Years

In the death of Oliver Wood Purdy, which occured Monday evening at 7:45 o'clock, at his home, 421 Fourth street, Goodhue county loses another one of its pioneer settlers. Mr. Purdy has been in feeble health for the past two years and for several weeks past has been in critical condition. He was 87 years old.

Born in Tompkins county, New York, on January 14, 1830, Mr. P. came West with his family in 1867, settling first in Wisconsin, near the town of Grariot, in 1867. In 1876 he came to Minnesota and purchased a farm in Goodhue township. Here he lived until 1888, when he acquired a farm of Featherstone prairie. Two years later he retired from active work on the farm and moved to Red Wing. His first wife died many years ago. In 1900 he was married to Lauretta Rolfe, who with one daughter, Mrs. Grant Featherstone survive. A sister, Mrs. Henrietta Van Kirk, of Ithaca, N.Y., the last of a family of twelve children, is also left to mourn his loss.
