"Carol Ann Cleveland of Middletown, New York, died on August 10, 2006 from complications of Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC). She was 57 years old.

The daughter of the late John McClure and Elizabeth Toombs, Carol was born on December 6, 1948 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. After moving to New Jersey, on June 27, 1958, she and her father became American citizens, of which she was very proud.

Carol retired in 2006 as a Public Relations/Advocacy Assistant at Ramapo Catskill Library System (RCLS) in Middletown, N.Y., where she had worked for over 22 years.

She had been President of Civil Service Employees Association Local 703 at RCLS for ten years; former President of the Friends of Middletown Thrall Library; and a member and volunteer of Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer (CROC).

Carol, a CROC board member, used her knowledge and influence to work with the state Legislature to make October 16th-22nd Inflammatory Breast Cancer Awareness Week throughout New York.

Carol was also a strong advocate of women and animal rights and had been a longtime member of both Planned Parenthood and the World Wildlife Federation.

She is survived by her loving son, Brian Cleveland and his fiancée, Andrea Warren, of Frederick, Colorado; her loving aunt, Marilyn Gerken of Leonia, N.J.; aunt, Gladys Toombs of Beaver Falls, Pa.; cousin, Margaret Wilson and family of Bangor, Northern Ireland; and former husband, David Cleveland of Middletown, N.Y.

Carol is also survived by her two dearest friends, Lynn Kerrigan and family of Englewood, N.J. and Estelle Crawford and family of Sarasota, Fla.
