Mary Ann Nicholson, 14, drowned in a private pool Tuesday after rescuing a friend. According to reports, Mary Ann, daughter of Mrs. Ida Mae Carter and foster daughter of Danny Ray Carter, pulled a drowning friend to the side of the pool, but then went under herself and never came back up. The young teenager was a swimmer, so it is not understood just what caused the drowning. Bath County Sheriff Frank Pritt Jr. is investigating. Funeral services for Ms. Nicholson, who was a student at Bath County High School, will be held at 2 p.m. today at the McLaughlin Funeral Home in Hot Springs. The Rev. Bruce Frazier will officiate. Burial will be at Lockridge Cemetery in Highland County.
