Elsie Pearl Martin, 97, of Mexico, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at The Arbors At Bluff Creek Terrace in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home with burial to follow in East Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home.

Elsie was born on Aug. 24, 1919 in Farber, MO, the daughter of Ira Lee and Bessie O. (Gray) Charles. She was first married on March 28, 1936 to Lawrence Beckley in Fulton, MO. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1958. On Dec. 28, 1960 she married Roscoe Martin in Mexico. He preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1983.

She retired from A.P. Green Refractories as a ceramic chemist. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, was active in Eastern Star, was Mother Advisor for Rainbow Girls, enjoyed camping and was an avid bowler. She is in Mexico Lanes Bowling Hall of Fame and bowled in the Senior Games where she holds several records. She also was active in TOPS for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Roe Ann (Dale) Groves of Mexico and Kelly (Don) Rice of Columbia; three grandchildren, Lisa (Jeff) McCubbins of Mexico, Mike (Amy) Groves of Mexico and Tammy (Jeff) Nowlin of Columbia; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and a sister Mildred Willis of Jefferson City.

In addition to her parents and spouses, she was preceded in death by a great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Glenn and Irvin Charles; and a sister Zola May Foreman.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Arnold Funeral Home.
