Leroy J. Hayes, 86, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 2, 2017 at New Haven Living Center, Odessa, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Contributions may be made to the Fire Departments in Oak Grove or Laurie, MO.
Leroy was born June 14, 1930 in Dover, Missouri, to John and Myra (Settle) Hayes. He married Betty Buzzard on May 18, 1951. Leroy was active in the firefighting industry for most of his life. He began his career with the Sni Valley District in the 60's until his retirement in 1986. He and Betty then moved to Gravois Mills, MO, where he continued his involvement in the fire department until he retired in 2014. Leroy was also a member of the Eastern Star, Coast Guard, and the Missouri Association of Firefighters.
His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty; two daughters & their husbands, Cyndi & Jon Hampton and Sandi & Clarence Lance; one son & his wife, Rod & Dru Hayes; twelve grandchildren: Jennifer, Jerry, Lori, Travis, Bobby, Kim, Chris Andy, Mindy, Jim, Jamie, and Cord; nine great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Layne, Ashlyn, Jonathan, Taten, Michael, Anniston, Jacob, and Sam; one brother, Johnny; and many nieces and nephews.
