Elizabeth J. "Betty" Boerma, 88, of Heritage Village, N.Y., formerly of North Vernon, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at the Heritage Village Health Care Center.

Private entombment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at Jamestown, N.Y. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Mrs. Boerma retired from Weber-Knapp Co. in 1981 after 31 years of service. She was an active member of the Kennedy United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the women's group. She was known as "snow lady" in her former Jamestown neighborhood where she shoveled snow for neighbors. She and her husband resided in North Vernon from 1993 to 2004. She enjoyed quilting and traveling.

Born March 14, 1918, in New Albion, NY, she was the daughter of George W. and Lulu Burmaster Tolman.

She is survived by a daughter, Jerrye Cole of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Carol Anderson and Candy Kidder of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Sally Thurston of Hudson, Fla.; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; eight stepgrandsons; seven stepgranddaughters; a sister, Kay Hitchcock of Gerry, N.Y.; and a brother, Ward Tolman of Clearwater, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Harold B. Boerma, who died Aug. 13, 2006; an infant daughter; three brothers, Fred, Joe and Cecil Tolman; a stepson, Philip Boerma; and a stepgrandson.
