Rural Wingate resident.
Passed away Monday at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville.

Son of Clifford and Lena Thompson Coon.
Married Marilyn Dahlberg Nov. 11, 1944. She preceded him in death March 30, 2014.
Survivors include sons David V. (LuAnn) II, Robert J. (Margaret) and William J. (Joyce) Coon; daughters Lynn Larson and Catherine P. (Matthew) Usher; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, infant sisters Edith and Alma, and great-granddaughter Ava G. Diane.

They have lived in Wisconsin, Illinois and moved to the family homestead in March 1965 to take care of his parents.


David and Marilyn had been part of the Left Footed Indians Square Dance Club in Illinois. David had been a 50-year member of the Masons, Order of the Eastern Star, active in the New Richmond Chapter, where he was a Past Patron, and Shawnee Lodge. His membership in the Order ceased due to his health. David had enjoyed his children’s activities as they attended school, and also attended as many functions of the grandchildren as possible. He enjoyed attending Special Olympics events to cheer on granddaughter Jennifer. He had worked at Fountain Foundry in Veedersburg. He helped negotiate talks with the union, and avoided the first strike in the company’s history. He had last worked at Kroger on Darlington Avenue, retiring from the deli to spend time with his family.

Memorial service 4pm Saturday, June 10 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate, with Pastor Alan Groff officiating. A Masonic service will precede the memorial service.
Visitation 2pm until time of service.
On July 8, 2017, David and Marilyn will be taken by carriage with Tymeless Clydesdales from the family homestead to the Oakland Cemetery, where they will be inurned.

Memorial donations to Montgomery County Special Olympics or Coal Creek Fire/Rescue.
