Born in Centreville on March 26, 1955, he was the son of the late Winnie Perry Whitby and Gladys Reba Dill Whitby. Dale grew up in Centreville and loved spending time honing his skills as a pitcher, playing all through his childhood and young adult years. He worked as a painter, and owned Whitby Painting. Dale was a self-taught guitar player, who could play almost any song he heard, and spent many evenings honing his game of pool. He was an avid hunter all of his life and enjoyed spending time with his family and his cats.
He is survived by his children: DJ Whitby (Rebecca) of Church Hill, MD, Danny Whitby (Sarah) of Greensboro, MD Robert Whitby of Centreville, MD David Whitby (Rachel) of Hampton Roads, VA and Amber Whitby of Chestertown, MD; his siblings: Winnie P. “Casey” Whitby, Jr. (Jo Ann) of Ruthsburg, MD, Darlene Whitby of Centreville, MD and Mark Whitby (Geri) of Centreville, MD; and nine grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 3 at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Centreville, MD, where friends and family may visit beginning at 11 am. Burial will follow in Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville, MD.
