Carl Malzahn was born November 24, 1835, at Blankenfelde, Germany and passed away at Good Thunder on Saturday morning, November 28, 1914. The deceased came to this country with his parents at the age of 8 years; first locating in Dodge County, Wisconsin. They later moved to Lewiston, Minnesota, then to Missouri where he resided eleven years, and lastly to this place which has been his home for thirty-one years. He was never married but remained with his parents during their lifetimes and since then with his nephew, Rudolph Malzahn, who remained on the old home farm southeast of this village.

Mr. Malzahn had been in feeble health for some years because of the infirmties of old age and heart trouble, and death came as a relief to the frail body. He was the last surviving member of his family; there having been five sisters and four brothers. His nearest surviving relatives are nephews and nieces of which there are many.

The funeral service was held at St. John's Lutheran Church conducted by the pastor with burial by the side of his father in the Lutheran cemetery.
