JOHN LEWIS BRASWELL, SR., 67, of 16109 Everly Road, Hagerstown, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his home. Born Feb. 4, 1933, in Banner Elk, N.C., he was the son of the late Slite S. and Essie Grindstaff Braswell.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed by PIE Nationwide for 28 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, N.C., and attended Williamsport United Methodist Church. He was a member of Teamsters Local 992; and Potomac Post 202 American Legion of Williamsport.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Hoilman Braswell; two sons, John L. Braswell Jr. and James E. Braswell; three sisters, Ruth B. Swogger of Satsuma, Fla., Ruby Alma Jackson and Betty J. Bradshaw, both of Canton, Ohio; a brother, Carl Wayne Braswell of Spruce Pine, N.C.; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers.

Services were held at Osborne Funeral Home, Williamsport. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport, with military graveside services conducted by members of Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion of Hagerstown.
