Jean Ann Carl, 89, of Granger, Ind., died Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Hearth at Juday Creek with loving family by her side. Mrs. Carl was born Nov. 2,1927, in Sturgis, Mich., to the late Ina F. (Stewart) and Charles H. Fiandt and lived most of her life in the South Bend, Ind. area. On Oct. 10, 1947, in Sturgis, she married Wallace E. Carl Jr., who preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Susan D. Duckworth (Thomas) of Granger; sons Brent A. Carl (Deanna) of Silver Springs, MD, Ronald B. Carl of South Bend, Ind. and Larry W. Carl (Deborah) of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Laura, Ryan, Adam, Stephanie, Eric, Dustin, Jessica and Tracy; and 13 great-grandchildren.Jean was sweet, kind and courageous and never wanted to draw attention to herself. Her life revolved around her family and friends. She loved being involved in the lives of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She wrote heartfelt sentiments with beautiful penmanship in all her cards and letters. She treasured every photo, card and letter she received and kept all of them. She enjoyed socializing with friends, doing crossword puzzles, reading novels, painting with water colors, and of course cheering on the Chicago Cubs. She was delighted and amazed when they won the World Series on her 89th birthday! A private family memorial service will be held with Pastor Robert Schallhorn officiating. Cremation will take place with interment at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
