Phyllis F. Woods, 86, passed away on Oct. 5, 2014, from heart failure due to complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, at the Alaska Regional Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born on Sept. 15, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., and became a resident of Alaska in November of 1967. Phyllis received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She was on the Board of University of Alaska Anchorage Alumni Associates in the 1980s and made the Dean's list while earning her degree. Phyllis also worked with the Army Corps of Engineers from 1981 to 1993, in the Alaska District, then retired. Phyllis was a lifelong Lutheran. She is survived by her sons, Ernest L. Woods III and Christopher H. Woods; daughters, Phyllis A. Woods and Pamela M. Woods; grandsons, Landon E. Leu and Alexander U. Leu; and son-in-law, Sergiu Leu. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. Woods Jr. and daughter, Lynn E. Woods. A funeral service will be held at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, located at 737 E Street, on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. Arrangements were by Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
