The death occurred in Cornwall General Hospital on Friday, January 5, of Abram Beckstead following a brief illness.
Mr. Beckstead was born in Williamsburg Township in 1856 and would have reached his 89th birthday on Saturday January 13. He was the eldest of 12 children, of which four survive.
The news of his death came as a great shock to the community in which he lived for the past 45 years, and where he had made many loyal and devoted friends. He had served at various times in the village council also other positions in the municipality.
The funeral was held on Monday, January 7 from his residence to St. Luke's Presbyterian Church for service at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Robertson Millar, assisted by Rev. H.M. Beach, of Chalmer's United Church.
He was buried under the auspices of L.O.L. No. 2270, of which he was an honorary member, having been a member of the Orange Order for 71 years. Burial was made in Finch Cemetery.
