Sidney was the son of Sidney Tolbert "Tollie" & Mabel Carolyn Rainey Strain.

Sidney Strain & Gay Nell Dean were married 09 Mar 1951.

After high school Sidney worked in the foundry at the Naval Station in Bremerton, Washington until he knew his draft notice was coming up. He quit there January 6, 1943, returning to Oklahoma where he received his induction notice on February 21, 1943 and entered the Navy on March 3, 1943. He attended 12 weeks of boot camp at San Diego, CA. After a short leave to come home he reported to the receiving station at Treasure Island. On September 18, 1943 he reported aboard the USS HAROLD C Thomas DE21 at San Pedro, CA, which had been commissioned on May 31, 1943. He remained aboard this ship through the remainder of the war. Sidney saw all of the action listed below for the USS HAROLD C. THOMAS DE-21. After the Pacific war ended 1 September with the signing of the armistice he then rode the ship back to San Pedro, CA arriving on September 27 where the ship was decommissioned October 26, 1945. After the ship was decommissioned Sidney was sent to Norman, OK where he was discharged on November 19, 1945 and returned home. Sidney was a Seaman First Class and had passed the test for Quartermaster 3rd Class when discharged.

Sidney crosed the equatorm becoming a Golden Shellback on Nov 11, 1944. Due to it being wartime thjay had no initiation.

After discharge he began Business School in Dallas, Dallas County, TX on Feb 19,1946 to became an accountant.

In 1955 he became interested in genealogy and tracing the Strain family roots which he pursued until has death in 1992.
