Glee was born 28 June 1909 in Peck, Nez Pierce, Idaho, the eighth of nine children of John Root Melcher (1863-1925) and Harriet May Hickey (1870-1947)

Glee was married three times. Glee’s first marriage was to Mildred Laura Hill some time before 1936 in Washington State. Mildred was born 3 June 1918 in Fraser, Clearwater, Idaho, the daughter of Norvil Raymond Hill (1873-1948) and Lillian Talmadge Wright (1882-1970). She had a sister Georgia.

Glee and Mildred had two children, Dana and Lawrence. Glee was an Idaho State Representative in 1941-1942.

Glee and Mildred divorced some time before 1944 and both remarried. Mildred married Dareld Joseph Chamness 1 January 1944 in Seattle, Washington. Dareld was born 5 August 1911 in Illinois. When Mildred married, the children Dana and Lawrence adopted their step-father’s last name Chamness.

Mildred died 9 July 1997 in Casa Grande, Pinal, Arizona. Dareld died 20 February 2002 in Casa Grande, Pinal, Arizona.

Glee’s second marriage was to Wilma Marguerite Couey 6 March 1944 in Seattle, King, Washington. Wilma was born 6 May 1910 in Cayley, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Joseph Lincoln Couey (1866-1945) and Georgia Catherine Keebler (1872-1947). Wilma had two siblings, Gladys Vesta and Elbert. Wilma and her family came to the United States about 1912 and Wilma became a naturalized citizen in 1942. Wilma graduated from Franklin High School, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon in 1927 (Wilma was the Sophomore Class President at Franklin High School). Wilma attended Oregon State University, Corvallis, Benton, Oregon from 1927-1929, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.

Wilma’s first marriage was to George Marsh Sarchet, 6 March 1929 in Portland, Multhomah, Oregon. Wilma and George had two children, Jeanne Dianne and Suzanne Yvonne. Wilma and George divorced some time before 1942.

Glee and Wilma had no children and subsequently divorced. Following their divorce, Wilma took back her married name Sarchet.

Wilma died 6 March 2001 in Columbia, Columbia, Oregon.

Glee’s third marriage was to Ruth Isabel Clemens 14 August 1945 in St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Spokane, Washington. Ruth was born 3 November 1917 in Rockford, Spokane, Washington, the daughter of Henry Newton Clemens (1876-1950) and Jane Reith (1880-1962). Ruth had three siblings: Eleanor Olive, Jean Margaret, and Newton. Ruth graduated from Rockford High School and attended Whitworth College, Spokane, Washington, where she obtained a teaching degree, and Washington State College of Education, Cheney, Spokane, Washington.

Glee and Ruth had four children: Steven, Margaret, Nona, and Richard.

Glee died 23 January 1966 in Spokane, Washington.

Following Glee’s death, Ruth married Robert Eugene Simpson in 1972. Robert was born 4 June 1920 in Fruita, Mesa, Colorado. Ruth and Robert subsequently divorced. Robert died 30 April 1998 in Veradale, Spokane, Washington Ruth died 23 January 2001 in Spokane, Washington.
