Richard, the son of Russell W. Buttry and Glendora M. Buttry of Anaheim California enlisted in the US Marine Corps on September 19, 1967, in Los Angeles. He arrived in Vietnam on 4 January 1970, where he was assigned for duty and served with H & MS-16, MAG-16, 1st Marine Air Wing.

On November 18 in poor weather, a CH-46D Helicopter from HMM-263 after completing an emergency extraction of a Reconnaissance team in the Que Son Mountains in the vicinity of Hill 953 crashed killing all fifteen men on board. LCpl Richard Buttry, a door gunner was one of the casualties.∼LCpl Buttry #2410268

Richard arrived in Vietnam 4 January 1970
and was assigned to H&M-16,MAG-16,1st
Marine Air Wing.Richard was a door gunner on
a CH-46A #154837 helicopter that was shot
down by hostile fire while making a recon
extraction,in the Que Son Mountains,12
kilometers southeast of the An Hoa Airfield.
He died as a result of multiple injuries when
the helicopter crashed.
Richard served his country for 3 years.

Buttry of 2790 Stonybrook Dr,Anaheim,CA.
