Son of Elias Day and his first wife Charity Eator (Ator). Family moved from Pennsylvania to Athens Co., OH in the 1830s. In the 1850s Elias moved his family to Wapello Co., Iowa, and Calvin moved from there to Monroe Co., WI, where he remained until his death.

First wife Eleanor Dains, dau of Calvin Parkhurst Dains and Eliza Sloan. Eleanor died in childbirth and is buried in Ohio; their child Elinor also died in childbirth and is buried in the Cal Day Cementery.

Second wife Mary Anne Harle (Harl), dau of Noah and Mathilda (Pickerell) Harle. Marriage ended in divorce. One child, John W. J. Day, lived his entire life in Sullivan Co., Mo.

Third wife Mary Davis, dau of Burr and Mary Davis. Died in 1883 and is buried in Cal Day Cemetery. Children of this marriage Helen (Downing), Jane (Sheran, Boldon), Alvin, Cal Jr., Frank, Sarah, Samuel (died young, buried in Cal Day Cemetery.

Fourth wife, Ada Lydia Buchner (married 1st Adolph LaRonge), dau of Jesse and Phebe (Ribble) Buchner. Children of this marriage were Mary (Snippen), Lewis, Archie and Arthur. Ada's children from her first marriage were George LaRonge and Roy (Clarence R.) LaRonge
