She was born April 18, 1916, at Smithfield, Utah, to George Robinson Kearl and Violet Rebecca Pitcher Kearl. She grew up and attended schools in the area.
On June 5, 1940, she married Rex Elwood in Brigham City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on June 13, 1945. He preceded her in death November 17, 1999. She was a mother and homemaker and worked as a sales clerk in various grocery stores, drug stores, fabric and clothing stores. She also spent time volunteering at the hospital.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings, including Homemaking Counselor, Homemaking Leader, and Quilting Chairman in the Relief Society organization. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and crafts. Phyllis especially loved her family and had great love and concern for each one of them.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006, at the Idaho Falls LDS Woodruff 1st Ward (1660 - 12th Street) with Bishop LaMar Densley, officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home (273 N. Ridge) and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
