IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Nile Merton Gray, 82, died from complications of aplastic anemia April 7, 2006, at his home.

Nile was born to Merton James and Rosetta Jenkins Gray April 29, 1923, in Idaho Falls.

He is survived by his second wife, Deloris "Bobbie" Calkins Gray whom he married November 8, 1997, in the Idaho Falls Temple. From his 51-year marriage to the late Helen LeRene Buttars, who he was sealed to July 10, 1946, in the Idaho Falls Temple, he is survived by all of his six children: Linda (Wendel) Curtis, Idaho Falls, Larry (Pam) Gray, Idaho Falls, Merlin (Dorthea) Gray, Sandy, UT, Nilene (Sherman) Weekes, Rexburg, Keith (Kelly) Gray, Murray, UT, and Evan Gray, North Salt Lake City, UT. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Cindy (Neil) West, Sammamish, WA and Lisann (Steven) Esplin, Ammon, ID. He has 25 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and a step-great grandson. Other survivors include two sisters, Shirley Barrie, Idaho Falls, ID and Velma Risenmay, Idaho Falls, ID

Nile was a man of strong, unwavering conviction. He lived a life of service to his family, church, country and community. He will be remembered for his never-ending effort, humor, determination, loyalty, sacrifice and desire to be included in group activities. He loved and supported his family through all the various trials they gave him. He always loved them.

He received his elementary and secondary education in Idaho Falls. After graduating from Idaho Falls High School, he served in the U. S. Army, 16th Armored division in Czechoslovakia. A special plaque honoring the 16th division still stands in Czechoslovakia.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many callings including High Priest Group Leader, Stake Missionary and as a veil worker at the Idaho Falls Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two brothers, Robert Gray and Leo Dean Gray, and a granddaughter, Melissa Gray.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Ammon LDS 18th Ward on the corner of John Adams and Crowley Road. The family will visit with friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, 273 North Ridge Avenue, and Tuesday for one hour before services at the church.

Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park.
