Louise Elliston and Larkin Smith were married 31 October 1894 at Christ Church Episcopal in Nashville. The bride was given away by her brother, William Robert Elliston, and her first cousin Elsie Yandell of Louisville accompanied her as maid of honor.
Louise died unexpectedly, aged 32, at Melrose Farm, Nashville residence of her sister and brother-in-law Bessie and Edwards Sinclair. Dr Smith never remarried and is buried in the Nashville City Cemetery with his parents Louise Minor née Hough and Albert J. Smith.

Dr Larkin Smith attended the University of the South at Sewanee and was graduated from the University of Nashville Medical College in 1888 and from the medical department of Vanderbilt University in 1889. He completed a private post-graduate course in pathology in New York City in 1889 and studied at the Polytechnic Laboratory of New York City in 1890.
From 1890 to 1895 Dr Smith taught at the University of Nashville and Vanderbilt University medical departments and later as professor of histology, pathology, and bacteriology at the University of Nashville, a position he retained until 1912. He was city health officer from 1898 to 1908 and served in the First World War as a regimental major in the 114th Field Artillery.
Dr Smith practiced medicine in Nashville until his retirement in 1930. He was a member of Christ Church, Episcopal.
