YORK James E. Sweeney, Sr., 70, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Cynthia L. (Reider) Sweeney, with whom he observed their 49th wedding anniversary on November 30, 2006. Born January 22, 1937, in York, he was the son of the late James W. and Sarah Jane (Martin) Sweeney. Jim retired in February, 2000, as a welder for United Defense. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the Prince Athletic Association, the South End Democratic Club, and the V.F.W. Post #5265 of Spring Grove. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by two sons, John W. Sweeney of York and Aaron E. Sweeney, Sr. of Manchester; two grandsons, Aaron E. Sweeney, Jr. and Dennis Alan Sweeney, both of Manchester; two sisters, Florence Brock and Mary Rhoades, both of York; and a brother, Joseph Sweeney of York. He was preceded in death by a son, James E. Sweeney, Jr. who died in 1985.
